The colours used are very limited, making use of a palette of only 3 tones to
compliment the minimalist composition as well as tying in with the ‘house
style’ already established by the band; its colours match the pale pink and
whites used there, ensuring consistency across all mediums.

The minimalism is continued in the use of typography, with the very simple
and clean century gothic bold being implemented throughout. The lettering
is exclusively capitalised to add a sharpness to the already crisp layout.

Not only this, but the font is widely recognised among fans as being
associated with the band, with this same font - aside from that seen in the logo -

being used in much of the other band’s media, including their most recent
album sleeve.

While the typography isn't extravagant or overtly expressive, this is

synonymous with, and ideal for the brand.

#2

Tasked with making use of the 960 grid system in a 'stylish way,' we were asked to design a UI for an event, making specific use of typography: make use of type as a graphic element.

THE 1975

With the release of their 2016 album coinciding with the receipt of this brief, I knew their established style would fit well with the rigidity of the grid system: sharp minimalism is synonymous with their aesthetic.

Some key elements of the band's established style include:

  • Simple & crisp typography & graphics

  • Sharp, rectangular borders

  • Neon typography

  • BW images

  • Central alignment

The composition of each page has been designed with this look and style in mind: the layout and content is very minimal and only relevant, functional elements appear on each page. The sitemap will also remain minimal with only pages relating to the tour being included: the band already have a general website set up.
